Muted Payrolls, Eyes on Tariffs
by Tony Rago

Payroll numbers are out and the reaction has been pretty muted so far — not exactly the kind of impulse move that clears things up early. That puts more weight on the rest of the economic slate this morning, especially the upcoming tariff decision, which has the potential to actually move the tape and give direction. When initial data doesn’t spark follow-through, it often means the market is waiting on the next catalyst before committing, so expect patience to be tested early.

The tape has been tricky most of this month, and today feels like more of the same unless that tariff news injects some real conviction. Add in the fact that it’s Friday, and this is not a day to force trades or chase half-formed moves. Be selective, be disciplined, and stay extra patient — especially around key levels where fake breaks tend to show up. If direction comes, great. If not, capital preservation is a win. Let’s stay sharp and ready. 💪
